Brain damage and Encephalitis
In extreme cases, can cause brain damage, stroke, or even death. Inflammation of the meninges, the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, is called meningitis; inflammation of the brain itself is called encephalitis. Myelitis refers to inflammation of the spinal cord.
The infection may be bacterial or viral. In some cases encephalitis, may be the result of an immune system disorder. Ages affected 0-2 3-5 6-13 14-18 19-40 41-60 60+. Although, 60+ are most likely to have brain damage because they may fall or bump their heads from the loss of their balance. This can also occur if they play sports like football. From this, it can cause severe cases that can be life-threatening. Immediate medical attention is needed for symptoms such as confusion, hallucinations, seizures, weakness, and loss of sensation.
Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain; the brain mass. Nerve cells or the white matter of the brains are directlydamaged.Encephalitis is usually caused by a virus, sometimes by bacterium. Often after or during a viral infection elsewhere in the body. Also known as a reaction of the immune system, even after vaccination. Some symptoms are:
high fever
flu-like symptoms (fever, headache)
severe headache
photosensitivity
nausea and vomiting
eburnation / coma
(muscle) weakness
eye muscle paralysis
problems with vision / double vision
epilepsy / seizures
Complications from encephalitis can be serious, the condition requires hospitalization. Treatment will depend largely on your age and condition, as well as the form and cause of the disease. If encephalitis is caused by a bacterial infection, it can be treated with antibiotics.
